An interesting comparison has emerged about DDR5 and DDR4 memories, specifically DDR5 4800 vs DDR4 3200 where Intel Alder Lake processors would be negatively affected by DDR5.
DDR5 4800 vs DDR4 3200 (Analysis)
We know that Intel Core Alder Lake processors are compatible with DDR4 and DDR5 memory. Some results in User-Benchmark show an Alder Lake processor with 16 cores and 24 threads combined with some DDR5-4800 memories and another with DDR4-3200. In both cases they are dual configurations of 8GB per module.

Intel Core Alder Lake has processors up to the high-performance 8-core Golden Cove and 8-core Gracemont, of which Golden Cove are the only ones with Hyper-Threading technology. This gives us a configuration of 16 cores and 24 threads.
The sample you can see on User-Benchmark appears to have, indeed, 16 cores with a base clock speed of 1.8 GHz and a mid-boost clock of 3.65 GHz.
It is not clear which processor it is exactly, but by the number of cores we could be talking about a hypothetical Core i9-12900K or 12900. However, we are not sure if both tests were performed with the same processor.
The DDR5 platform consisted of two Micron DDR5-4800 memory modules of 8 GB each. On the other hand, the DDR4 platform used a pair of 8 GB Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4-3200 memory modules.
Performance Comparison
DDR4-3200 memory outperformed DDR5-4800 by up to 24% on the read test and up to 20% on the write test. DDR5 if it beat its previous generation rival in the mixed performance test by 5%.

In the single-core performance deltas the results weren’t that different on the read test, but DDR5-4800 offered 4% and 1% better performance on writes and mixed memory, respectively.
In latency tests, DDR5 RAM was 36% better. We will have to wait for future tests to find out if these results are caused by early samples or not.
