Do you want to know what types of Ram memory problems you can face? How to Identify and fix them? You are on the right spot to have answers of these queries.
RAM memory can be the source of countless problems, so we are going to collect them all and offer you different solutions.
There are not a few headaches that simple RAM memories can cause, but the truth is that it is more common than it seems.

The problem is not that they generate errors, but that they can manifest themselves in different ways, giving rise to a variety of important problems. Therefore, we are going to address the maximum possible of them in this post.

Types of RAM Memory Problems along with Solutions
-
Windows does not Recognize the RAM memory
You open the task manager and it shows you that you have less RAM than you have installed. The same thing happens in “system information”, what is going on? This is one of the problems that we find in RAM, so we are going to do one thing:
- Open the start menu and search for “control panel “.
- We access it, we put our eyes on small icons and we go to « system «.
- Here we must have the full capacity of all installed modules.
If not, something is wrong with the motherboard or with the module installation:
- Turn off the PC, disconnect it from the power and verify the installation.
- It may be that one of the modules is not inserted correctly, so check the side tabs and that everything is correct.
- In case you have 4 or more slots, place both modules (if you have a pack of 2) in the slots that have the same colors to make them work in Dual If all the slots have the same color, leave a space slot between the 2 modules.
What if I have only one module and it shows wrong? And if they are perfectly installed
- Please update the motherboard BIOS or restore the motherboard to default settings, it may fix it.
- If it still doesn’t work, the problem may be with the modules -> change them.
- Does the same thing happen in new modules? The problem is probably on the motherboard

Timing Problem
The timing problem is very famous when we overclock the RAM memory manually or through XMP, and this causes instability.
Briefly, the timings or sub timings are a series of values that each RAM memory has, and many over-clocker modify them to extract more performance.

We refer to the CAS, tRCD, tRP or tRAS (15-15-15-35), which I recommend respecting even when you are going to overclock because this can create destabilization.
Here the problem is being created by us with our negligence, and how can it be fixed?
We can fix it as easy as putting the default settings from the BIOS. Ok, why do I have to run at 2133 MHz, if my memories are 3200 MHz?
Look for an XMP profile that best suits the timings of your RAM memories and there will be no problem.

Be careful with Overclocking
Oh dear overclock! This article seeks to address RAM issues, so I won’t go into whether or not you should overclock RAM.
This practice can cause problems, and one of them has to do with the temperatures of the modules.
There are memories that come with heat spreaders to deal with the increase in temperature in the modules when we alter their voltage.
Well, having memories with a “low-cost” diffuser is not going to help us much to have a stable system.
Therefore, if you see that your PC is doing strange things to you and you have overclocked components, think about them when it comes to diagnosing the problem.

Temperatures
It may have to do with the overclock or without it. But the truth is that we must monitor the temperatures of the RAM memory because we may be experiencing thermal throttling in the modules.
In the end, components are forced to slow down to cool down, and that’s when certain anomalies occur.
If you see that the multitasking of the PC is not going as it should, there are crashes in video games or tools, etc., open HWMonitor and take a look at the temperatures of your modules.

Mix different RAM memories
We already discussed once what happened when mixing RAM memories in a computer, and by “mixing” we mean 2 scenarios:
- Mix Single Channel plug-ins that is an 8 GB module with another 8 GB module, even if they are of the same brand.
- Mix packs to expand RAM memory, for example, if we already had 16 GB, buy another pack of 2 x 8 GB to compensate (even if it is the same range and model).
Does something bad have to happen yes or no, can it cause problems in RAM memory? We have already explained that the incompatibility comes from the factory, and not from the timings or the specific model:

There are shipments of chips and they are manufactured differently. Therefore, always trust in buying completely new RAM memory: You will not fail there.

Blue Screen or Crashes
It is very important to keep the message of why the blue screen occurs, and the reason is usually expressed in the form of a code.
Stay with him (take a picture or whatever) and then Google what could be or what has been the problem.
I tell you the same thing with crashes (fatal errors that cause the program to close) of tools or games: Look at the error message to look for it. If it is a RAM memory problem:
- Remember to check the overclock.
- Reset defaults in BIOS.
- Check temperatures.
- Enough RAM memory? Many times, applications close because our computer does not have enough RAM (games, for example).
- Update BIOS.
- Module problem: If nothing helped, your memories may have said “so far”.
-
Does not turn on the PC
This has happened to me and almost 90% of the time it is due to the fact that the RAM memories are incorrectly installed in the slots.
Check that everything is perfectly installed, and make use of the side tabs of the slots to make sure that they are well anchored.
Beware: There are users who have experienced this when mixing RAM memory modules. Science is sometimes not exact, and this is one of the examples: On one team it doesn’t happen, but on another it does for some reason.
On the other hand, be aware of the 128GB total configuration limitation on most modern chipsets. If you install more, the PC may not boot for the same reason.
Be careful with older computers because you can find cases where there were motherboards that only supported 8 GB or only supported 4 GB modules.
As a last reason, we could be facing a case where the newly purchased modules are not right.
-
Black screen when going from BIOS
Think about overclocking or some setup you’ve done recently where all of a sudden your screen goes black when the famous motherboard/PC brand logo passes by.
In your case, the first thing I would do is to check the RAM memory configuration: We may have put more MHz than it can offer.
Then, I would look at the temperature of the RAM memories (some BIOS allow you to see the temperature of the main components).
If everything is fine (in your opinion), try resetting the default values in the BIOS. In case it doesn’t work either, it’s time to see what is happening to the hard drives, specifically to the boot drive (where the OS is installed).

Power Surge
If the power has gone out or you have suffered a power surge in your home, remember that this can seriously affect the components of the PC. RAM memory can cause problems after such an event in our house, so keep that in mind.

What to do? The damage has not been caused by having memories in poor condition, so the correct thing would be to process said damage to our home insurance.
Attach the invoice or receipt of purchased memories so that they return the money and thus buy others.
If you say this to the store where you bought the memories or to the brand when processing the RMA or guarantee… they will refer you to home insurance.
In these cases, a UPS helps a lot because it keeps the PC (or other devices) supplied with energy to avoid this type of damage to internal components.
If you live in a place where the power goes out continuously, buying a UPS will help you a lot.
